OSSs can be viewed as a set of systems that can be integrated into a single platform.  Unfortunately for those folks in network operations, most support systems are not integrated.  Fortunately for those folks in network operations, the industry is rapidly moving towards an integrated approach.  The drivers for consolidating OSSs are:

·        Operations cost reductions

·        Reduced workforce

·        Growing number of disparate systems that provide enhanced services to the subscriber and enhanced network capabilities.  These complex systems need to be managed efficiently.

·        Centralization of functions – partly as a result of cost reductions and partly because of the complexity of systems
