Many operators have both pre- and post-paid systems acting separately. To build a more cost-efficient convergent system, these should be more tightly integrated. This, in turn, puts requirements on the functionality and scalability. For example, the system could be built like this: The IN-based real-time prepaid system manages rate plans and subscriptions, and handles the real-time rating and balance management. Through real-time APIs the system interacts with real-time and IP based value-added services, such as RingBackTone, MissedCall, WiFi and e-commerce. CDRs and balance statements are sent to the post-paid billing system when required, and communication with CRM is ensured with EAI. The aim is to get a single set of services and a single subscriber database to decrease operational costs, and ability to react fast to gain a competitive advantage in the market.
