Hybrid networks are the stepping stone to IMS

The IT staff wants to build the services on an IMS platform using SIP (session initiation protocol) for signaling. Following a hybrid strategy, IT would build the services on the SIP server and tie it into the legacy infrastructure with gateways to enabling an IMS service delivery platform to provide the prepaid service on the legacy infrastructure. For example the legacy infrastructure could provide access, provisioning, etc., while the provider deploys an IMS-compliant application server supporting the prepaid service. In this way, the provider lays the first block in the foundation of a consolidated IMS support infrastructure.

Going this hybrid route means making hard decisions. It may be years before providers see returns on large IMS infrastructure investments. However, proportional investments in IMS infrastructure components will allow near term profitability while paving the way for: a versatile network that provides a solid foundation for long-term growth and profitability.
