A Greater Concern: Mesothelioma Cancer from Asbestos Exposure

As an industry professional, one apparently needs to be more concerned about things like mesothelioma, a form of cancer caused by sustained exposure to asbestos.  For many communications professionals working in older central offices, mesothelioma is real concern, as many older buildings contain vast quantities of asbestos.  It has been proven that smoking dramatically increases risk for mesothelioma by the asbestos-exposed.

For many Europeans such as myself, this is a great concern for mesothelioma as almost everyone smokes and spends a great deal of time in asbestos-infested old offices and datacenters.  However, I caused people in other parts of the world who smoke and/or have exposure to asbestos, as mesothelioma may take between 20-40 years to manifest.

Recommendations to protect yourself from Mesothelioma: Stop smoking (if you can)! Wear an inexpensive paper mask when in potentially asbestos-infested places.
