Wireless Advertising: Big Opportunity, but do it Right!!

Almost all the news about wireless advertising recently involves the use of Bluetooth to provide unsolicited advertisements to people via display about products to mobile phones.   The mobile phone user is typically offered the opportunity to acquire more information in the form of a download or streaming video to the mobile phone.

This represents a good and bad development for brands and advertising agencies interested in mobile as a channel to reach potential customers.  The good news is that it raises awareness of the power and reach of mobile phone as an advertising media.  The bad news is that this is nothing more than SPAM.

Any form of advertising must be opt-in, permission-based and provide the end-user with a means of managing preferences and privacy.  It is the opinion of the editorial staff of MobileIN.com that any form of advertisement on mobile phones must be disciplined, having the best interests of the end-user in mind.  Mobile marketing or wireless advertising is a powerful tool to reach potential customers in a very targeted and personalized manner.  However, this highly personalized media can also be abused.
