Public Wi-Fi: The Transformation to
Wireless Philadelphia Web Conference
June 23, 2006 1 – 3pm Eastern Time
Featured Speaker: Dianah Neff, CIO, City of Philadelphia
As more businesses and individuals go wireless, there is an increasing
demand for public spaces to incorporate Wi-Fi into their offerings. Already,
places such as airports, libraries and universities are starting to provide
'hotspots' where users can access wireless internet. However, there is
a growing trend to provide greater access to this technology in more diverse
settings.
Perhaps the most ambitious of these new plans is the
creation of a wireless Philadelphia.
Incorporating the use of this technology over large areas provides CIO's with a
host of technical challenges, not the least of which are ensuring strong signal
levels, providing access systems, ensuring security levels and integrating new
wireless systems with existing ones.
Take away points include:
- How Philadelphia proposes to capitalize on this potential by leading an
effort to create a wireless network that will provide high-speed, broadband
wireless connectivity to all points within the city.
