SMS Initiated Conference Calling SMS initiated conference calling represents a value-added (VAS), convergent service combining two applications, advanced messaging and conference calling. With this application, the end user no longer needs to memorize a long dialing code and password, nor does she need to set-up a voice circuit to initiate a conference call. Instead, she need only invoke a SMS via a short code destined toward a conference call network management element ESME. Upon receiving the SMS, the ESME authenticates and authorizes the originating client, checks the conference call schedule manager against the client identity, and alerts a conference call circuit node to initiate a circuit switch connection to the client requesting the conference call. This advanced method of providing service to conference call attendees not only provides a great convenience to users, it also saves valuable time and bandwidth as call-back occurs only once a pre-determined number of users and/or the conference call leader has requested service. SMS Initiated International Callback SMS may also be used for other VAS applications such as SMS invoked international callback. In this application, the end-user initiates international callback by invoking a short code and PIN. The SMS is directed towards an international callback ESME, which in turn authenticates/authorizes the user, and in a manner similar to SMS initiated conference calling, redirects an international callback circuit manager to set up a circuit switch connection (callback to the requestor) as well as dial-out to the called party. The economic motive is to save money by way of arbitrage as the combined rates to callback the requester plus the rate to call the called party is less than a one-legged call would be if placed directly.
